Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 Price, Specs, Release Date Announced

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop is official. The company announced the new hybrid notebook today, its specs, price and release date info.

A leak this weekend had Dell working on a brand new XPS 13, which would update the device with a new 2-in-1 design, allowing it to be both a laptop and a tablet device, as is very much the way these days. No sooner had the leak barely started to cool than Dell actually announced the device we were all checking out just days ago. The new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is real, and it does indeed feature a convertible design thanks to a new 360-degree hinge.

… just when you thought everyone’s favorite laptop couldn’t get better, we’ve introduced the new XPS 13 2-in-1 to our portfolio, adding more flexibility and improvements making it even thinner, sleeker and fitting it with a 360-degree hinge to enable greater productivity and offer multiple viewing options.

As anyone who has taken a look at a PC maker’s website these days will know, convertible devices are nothing new, but this is actually a first for this particular line of Dell machines. Dell hasn’t been in an over-sharing mood, so details on the new device are a little thin on the ground.

To list its salient positives, the screen will be a QHD+ Infinity Edge display, a first for a 2-in-1 device, and a number of configurations will be available for the device. One of those will be a business model that will feature a 7th-generation Intel Core vPro CPU.

You can view complete details for the new XPS 13 machines on Dell’s own online marketplace. The entire lineup is set to be available via Best Buy and Dell’s own website starting as soon as January 5.

As for pricing, expect to have to hand over anything upwards of $999 in order to get your hands on one of these things, depending on the model you decide to opt for. You can view a summary of the laptop’s different variants along with their salient specs below.

Try This Fix For AirPods Charging Case Battery Drain Issue

Having battery life drain issues with Apple AirPods charging case? Try this temporary fix until Apple explains and issues a proper fix for it.

Apple’s AirPods have definitely been extremely well-received by those consumers who have been lucky enough to either purchase them independently, or who have been gifted by a family member or a loved one over the holiday period.

The product itself is beautiful and definitely worthy of the price tag that Apple has applied to it, but that hasn’t stopped certain users from experiencing issues relating to the charging case, and more specifically, the case not offering the 24-hours standby life that Apple’s documentation claims. Some users have managed to find a fix, and while it doesn’t appear to be working for everyone, it’s definitely worth giving a shot.

As has been discovered by one user, resetting the AirPods and then syncing them back to each device resolves the problem. To reset AirPods, simply “Press and hold the setup button for at least 15 seconds, until you see the status light flash amber a few times and then flash white.”

As mentioned earlier, it’s by no means a universal fix as others have simply had no joy at all fixing the charging case problem with this solution. The only real re-course that those users have is to actually go through the process of returning the AirPods for a refund, or asking for an exchange from Apple in the hope that they receive a pair of AirPods that don’t have the issue. The latter does involve having to actually wait for the AirPods to be in stock, with one user highlighting that he was asked to post the defective AirPods back to Apple and wait six weeks for a replacement.

Apple is yet to acknowledge the issue with the standby battery life on the AirPods charging case, but it’s very much possible that the company is internally investigating the issue and could deliver a firmware update for AirPods to resolve the problem. However, there’s no official confirmation that this will actually happen, which puts owners in a bit of a predicament.

Try This Fix For AirPods Charging Case Battery Drain Issue

TrackR Announces New And Updated Range Of Bluetooth Tracking Devices, Here Are The Details

TrackR has taken the opportunity to unveil a number of new and updated Bluetooth-based tracking devices ahead of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The new and improved TrackR devices are designed to help users ensure that they can keep track of personal items, such as keys or laptop bags, by attaching one of the company’s products to the item and using an accompanying iOS or Android app to keep tabs on the device.

First and foremost, TrackR has introduced the new TrackR pixel, which is a highly affordable and more personalized version of the existing TrackR bravo which has so far shipped over 4.5 million units worldwide.

The newly introduced pixel is a slightly cheaper alternative to the bravo and will be offered in far more colors for those who like a little bit of personalization to match their own personalities, or other devices that they own. The pixel can still be attached to a loved personal item, and can still be interacted with via the iOS or Android app to track its location. The system also takes advantage of the TrackR crowd-sourced GPS network to track if it’s out of normal range.

But that’s not all.

TrackR has also taken the opportunity to update its existing wallet product by revamping its visuals and taking it to version 2.0. The hardware is now visually almost identical to a credit card rather than the slightly bulky rounded corner offering that initially went to market. It also features a carbon-fiber style aesthetic that slips inside of a wallet and offers the same tracking functionality that can be found in the pixel or the bravo. Like previous versions, the battery in the new and improved wallet should last for approximately 12 months and can be replaced by the user rather than having to discard it and buy a whole new piece of kit.

Finally, and perhaps most exciting, TrackR has also announced that the new TrackR atlas is available for pre-order. Rather than being a relatively simple Bluetooth-based device to be attached to items, the Atlas is a smart plug-in device that can be used in each room of the home that then uses Bluetooth and W-Fi to map out the home with the aim of locating all devices that have a TrackR accessory fitted to them. There’s also a historical overview of locations, as well as integration with Amazon’s Alexa so users can simply ask and Echo or Dot where a specific item is.

Interested consumers will be able to purchase the new pixel for $24.99, version 2.0 of wallet for $29.99, and an individual atlas for $39.99. The atlas is currently offered for pre-order via TrackR’s website, but the other two new products are expected to be made available sometime later today.

Samsung Will Explain Why Galaxy Note 7 Kept Exploding Sometime This Month

The biggest smartphone story of 2016, the troubled launch and subsequent recall and cancellation of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7, looks all set to finally draw to a close in the first few weeks of 2017 following a report – which cites unnamed sources when claiming – that Samsung has concluded its investigation into the fiasco and will announce its findings this month.

Samsung famously released the Galaxy Note 7 to stellar reviews across the board before initial reports of phones exploding while on charge began to spring up. That was soon followed by a troublesome number of handsets subsequently beginning to catch fire, and in some instances, even explode.

This predictably led to a recall of Galaxy Note 7 handsets, with replacement devices handed out to those impacted by the recall. That should have been the end of the story, but further fires and explosions of recalled units left Samsung with no choice but to initiate a second recall, which pretty much was the last nail in the coffin as Samsung finally stepped back, and decided to call quits on the Note 7 once and for all.

Samsung, the world’s number one smartphone maker, has already warned of the potential for a $5.1 billion impact to its operating profit covering the three quarters after its decision to permanently kill off the floundering Galaxy Note 7 sales back in October.

Following all of those highly publicized unfortunate accidents, Samsung has been carrying out an internal investigation into what caused the battery explosions and subsequent recalls, and it would appear that we are close to finding out the outcome of that investigation. Samsung has refused to comment on claims that the investigation is complete, but this report does seem to be sure that we are on the cusp of an explanation.

Once the reason for the debacle is confirmed, attentions will turn to Samsung’s 2017 flagship devices, including the presumed Galaxy S8 and a possible successor to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, whatever form that may take.

Here’s what Apple’s AirPods would look like in Jet Black color, similar to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The AirPods managed to cause quite a stir when the product was initially introduced on stage during one of Apple’s media presentations. That stir has been followed up by consumer and critical validation when Apple finally managed to get the product up for sale via physical and digital stores, but have you ever wondered why the AirPods are manufactured and offered in glossy white, but no Jet Black exterior to match the extremely popular iPhone 7/7 Plus model?

It’s probably fair to suggest that more than a handful of confused consumers must have wondered why Apple has simply launched the AirPods in glossy white to mimic its wired EarPods rather than taking the opportunity to push out the accessory in colors that match the various iPhone finishes.

Designer Martin Hajek – who crops up on an almost quarterly basis with some beautiful renderings of concept Apple products – has clearly had the same thoughts, leading to the creation of renders which visualize the AirPods with a Jet Black finish. And they are as beautiful and sleek as you would imagine.

A black gloss iPhone but no black Airpods? Why? What if Apple had done the new AirPods in black too? I modelled these earphones and rendered them in brand-new iPhone gloss black.

Historically speaking, the earbuds which accompany any Apple mobile product, be it an iPhone or iPod, has been glossy white in their exterior. That finish is almost iconic and instantly lets you see when someone is using Apple’s earphones. However, with AirPods being a standalone product, and Apple selling them as an individual item rather than bundling them in with an iPhone or iPad, the opportunity was clearly there to sell the item with a variety of finishes, just like the company does with the iPhone, as well as other accessories like the official Apple Lightning Dock, but for whatever reason it decided not to.

You only need to take a quick glance at the AirPods, and accompanying charging case, finished in gloss black to understand just how beautiful the product would be if Apple was to actually take inspiration and release it in this color.

iOS 10.2 Jailbreak And Why You Should Save SHSH2 Blobs Right Now

Could there be a possibility of an iOS 10.2 jailbreak making its way into the public domain sooner rather than later? The current Yalu + Mach_Portal jailbreak, which liberates select 64-bit devices running iOS 10.0.x to 10.1.1 from Apple’s walled garden, is still very much in beta, and thus recommended for advanced users and developers only.

And now with iOS 10.2.1 release on the horizon, a series of tweets from Luca Todesco recommends those interested in jailbreaking to save SHSH2 blobs for iOS 10.2 right now in case an iOS 10.2 jailbreak does show up in future.

Italian developer and security researcher Luca Todesco has been involved in the jailbreak community for as long as we can remember in one form or another. In the last twelve months or so, he has managed to propel himself into being one of the most prominent members of the community through his tiresome work and dedication to finding vulnerabilities and bugs in iOS that can be exploited to produce functioning jailbreaks for Apple’s mobile devices.

His latest work is there for all to see with the release of Yalu + Mach_Portal for iOS 10.0.x – 10.1.1, but recent tweets from him have raised excitement up for a future jailbreak on iOS 10.2.

Suggestion: keep 10.1/10.2 blobs real close on pre7 64 bit.

This obviously sparked a discussion about whether or not he knew something the rest didn’t about the potential of an iOS 10.2 jailbreak. Another tweet from him however has played down the excitement about the jailbreak at the same time as actually fueling the speculation fire:

A jailbreak for 10.2 is not planned, but it is still vulnerable to the underlying technique used, so it’s the second best fw.

He has went on to further clarify that in couple of more tweets:

10.2 is vuln to my KPP thing. Not blowing 0days for it 😉

By that I imply that KPP alone is not enough: I am not supplying any other missing part.

What we can deduce from all this is that the KPP technique Luca used in current Yalu + Mach_Portal jailbreak for iOS 10.0.x to 10.1.1 is still vulnerable in iOS 10.2, but that alone isn’t enough to achieve the full jailbreak in iOS 10.2. And while he has undisclosed 0days, which when combined with his already public KPP, can supposedly produce full jailbreak on iOS 10.2, he doesn’t want to blow it away for another public jailbreak.

The likely good news here is that someone else, like the Pangu Team, can pick up on his progress made on iOS 10.2 to hopefully produce a fully functionality public jailbreak.

It’s a long shot, yes, but there’s some progress made there already and hopefully it’s only a matter of time before someone picks up on the work he has left off on iOS 10.2 to create a full jailbreak. The current iOS 10.0.x – 10.1.1 jailbreak happened the same way as well after a member of Google’s Project Zero team released the exploit for iOS 10.1.1, which Luca combined it with his KPP to produce Yalu + Mach_Portal jailbreak for iPhone 7 and other devices.

We have seen it happen in the past, so it can happen again. And so like Luca, we will suggest all those who care about jailbreaking to save their SHSH2 blobs for iOS 10.2 right now while Apple is still signing it so that they can downgrade or upgrade to the firmware using Prometheus whenever a jailbreak for it is available, even if Apple ends up patching it in iOS 10.2.1 or later firmwares.
