Starbucks Now Lets You Order Coffee Using Voice On iOS And Echo Devices

Starbucks has today initiated a limited beta for what it believes will be the future of coffee ordering.

Starting now, and limited to just 1000 users, Starbucks is launching a new beta program in which users can order their coffee and food stuffs using nothing but the power of their voice. The beta is currently an iOS-only affair, but support for those using Android devices is coming later this year.

The feature, dubbed My Starbucks barista, is built right into the Starbucks iOS app and allows for the ordering of coffee and other items in a chat-like interface. Users can type if they so wish, but voice input is undoubtedly the feature’s party piece and users can amend orders and check out without ever having to type a thing.

Starbucks has also announced a new Alexa Skill for Amazon’s Echo device. With the new skill users can order their whatever is designated “usual” food and drink order before leaving the house. Support for ordering off piste is not supported by the Skill, so be sure to configure your usual order just so before you place it.

“Our team is focused on making sure that Starbucks voice ordering within our app is truly personal and equally important was finding the right partner in Amazon to test and learn from this new capability. These initial releases are easy to use providing a direct benefit to customers within their daily routine and we are confident that this is the right next step in creating convenient moments to complement our more immersive formats. We expect to learn a lot from these experiences and to evolve them over time.”

Right now what Starbucks is trying to bring to users isn’t quite available as part of Siri, which is a shame. This is the kind of area where Siri needs to smarten up if it is to fulfil the potential that it has shown on and off for a number of years now. Perhaps the work done by Starbucks will push Apple to up its game in this regard.

Here’s The Likely Reason Why iCloud Activation Lock Status Tool Has Been Taken Down By Apple

Apple has removed an online tool which could be used by potential buyers of used iPhones and iPads in order to ensure that they are not lost or stolen. The Activation Lock Status website was removed at some point over the last few days, with no official word from Apple as to why it was removed.

Before its demise, the Activation Lock Status tool allowed users to put an iPhone or iPad’s IMEI or serial number into the web site to ensure that it did not have an active activation lock applied.

If this was the case then the chances were high that the device had been lost or stolen, and buyers would know not to make a purchase based on that information. Without the tool, potential buyers of used iPhones and iPads have little chance of knowing that their purchase is legitimate before handing over their money.

The reason for the tool’s removal from the internet – attempts to visit the site return an error – is not immediately obvious. However, the reason may be related to a hack which allowed the use of an unlocked device’s serial number to be used in order to fool Apple’s own systems into allowing a previously locked device to be activated.

The hack simply required that an invalid serial number have a digit or two changed in order to discover a valid serial number. This was then used to unlock a previously locked device, allowing it to be registered as if nothing was wrong.

This may also explain what was previously thought to be a bug which saw some users inexplicably have their devices locked with unknown PINs and account credentials. Those situations required Apple’s input to correct. It’s possible that, if related, this may explain the tool’s removal.

Whatever the reason, we can only hope that a replacement system will arrive soon, allowing used device buyers to have the peace of mind they require when making such a purchase.

Yalu102 iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Now Works On iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4

Yalu102 iOS 10.2 jailbreak has just been updated, with the new version adding support for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4.

With this latest beta 7 release of Luca Todesco’s yalu102 tool, the iOS 10.2 jailbreak now basically works on just about any 64-bit iOS device on the iOS 10.2 firmware except the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models.

Beta 7 release follows hot on the heels of beta 2-beta 6 releases, all of which were released in quick succession only yesterday and added support for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s and some other 64-bit iPad models after the initial version of the tool only supported iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, SE and iPad Pro.

Those with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are advised to stay on iOS 10.1.1 as that is currently the only version of iOS which can be jailbroken on the said devices. Yalu102 will add support for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but like Mach_Portal+Yalu it will only work on iOS 10.1.1 as the exploits used in yalu102 iOS 10.2 jailbreak doesn’t work on Apple’s latest iPhone models.

To jailbreak supported devices on iOS 10.2 using yalu102, download the latest beta 7 version from here, and then follow our detailed tutorial on how to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch here: How To Jailbreak iOS 10.2 With Yalu102 [Tutorial].

With iOS 10.2.1 out now and Apple testing iOS 10.3 with both developers and testers, we highly recommend downgrading to iOS 10.2 while Apple is still signing the firmware and save SHSH2 blobs while you can so that you can downgrade to it in future even if Apple stops signing the firmware. You can learn more about it here: How To Permanently Preserve Your iOS 10.2 Jailbreak.

As always, stay tuned to us for all the latest from jailbreak world!

Pokemon Go 1.25.0 And 0.55.0 Update For iOS And Android Rolling Out Now

Niantic Labs is in the process of rolling out Pokemon Go version 1.25.0 and 0.55.0 for iOS and Android respectively. As always, the company behind the popular game is continuously looking to push the title forward, gain additional traction with new and existing users, and generally just raise the standard of the game which is played by millions of users globally on a daily basis.

Any long-term Pokemon Go Trainer will already have an understanding about how Niantic Labs likes to issue updates to the app. Rather than wait for months on end and then release one huge update, the company appears to believe in a more continuous update procedure with frequent smaller improvements and additions.

pokemon-go-main-00

This latest update to version 0.55.0 and 1.25.0 for Android and iOS respectively is another prime example of that. Rather than any sweeping improvements, changes or remodeling, this update is evolutionary once again.

With that in mind, Niantic has focused on improving the loading time and responsiveness of the game for those who access the title via an Android smartphone or tablet. The loading time of Pokemon Go has been significantly reduced on the Android platform, meaning Trainers will have access to their favorite game a lot quicker. Niantic has also focused attention on the Pokemon Go Plus accessory in order to resolve any connectivity issues which Android users may have been experiencing when trying to use that device.

Additionally, there’s also a little bit of love for iOS users as well, and more specifically, those with an Apple Watch. Niantic has taken the game to a new level from an accessibility perspective by integrating iOS wheelchair support Pokemon hunters who use the Apple Watch version of the game. And of course, as is always the case with any Pokemon Go update, there are the obligatory “minor text fixes” throughout the whole experience.

pokemon-go-plus

It’s also likely that this update contains miscellaneous bug fixes and otherwise unmentioned performance enhancements designed to offer a better experience across the board on all devices and platforms.

The updates for both platforms should be in the process of propagating through the relevant app stores right now, and will be showing up as an available update very soon, if not already. Enjoy those latest improvements Trainers!

Apple Launches ‘One Night On iPhone 7″ Campaign To Promote Low-Light Photography Of iPhone 7

Apple has officially unveiled a new ‘One Night on iPhone 7’ campaign focused on promoting the power and low-light photo taking capabilities of iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple has enlisted the services of photographers from all over the globe to capture images shot exclusively on iPhone 7, designed to not only show the low-light capture capabilities of the stunning camera on Apple’s flagship, but to also show the beauty, diversity and varying wonders of the world that we live in.

To really make the most of the campaign, Apple utilized the services of mobile photographers all over the world to capture images using the low-light camera on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on one single day last year; November 5, 2016.

iphone-one-night-campaign

Photographers from all over the globe managed to capture images of the beauty as seen from the rooftops of Shanghai, or the chaotic madness of Indonesian volcanoes, and pretty much almost everything in between. Some of those photographers took the role extremely seriously by braving hazardous conditions and extreme climates, all to allow Apple to launch the “One Night on iPhone 7” campaign in 25 different countries, starting today.

This isn’t just any ordinary campaign either featuring images shot on an iPhone 7 in local environments. Certain photographers involved in the campaign went entirely above and beyond by traveling to distant lands, and using additional equipment, such as a drone, to assist with capturing the perfect set of stunning images, as Apple explains:

Chicago-based photographer Reuben Wu ventured to Java, Indonesia to photograph the 130 active volcanoes, using an iPhone 7 attached to a drone to capture breathtaking views of Gunung Karang’s lava flow after dark. Ruairidh McGlynn traveled to Iceland to photograph the foreboding terrain of the Arctic, traveling overnight by dog sled.

This campaign doesn’t appear to be just about the capabilities of the device, but also about invoking an emotional response to the beauty of the world, and giving an opportunity for the rest of us to truly experience something that otherwise may not have been possible for many, at least visually.

one-night-02

Apple has used its official post on the One Night on iPhone 7 campaign site to once again reiterate that every day and night more photographs are captured on iPhone than on any other camera in the world. And it isn’t hard to see why when you experience imagery like this. You can head over to Apple’s site at source below to check out the complete set of photos.

Download: watchOS 3.2 Beta 1 For Apple Watch Released With Theater Mode, SiriKit, More

You can now download watchOS 3.2 beta 1 for Apple Watch, which includes the original model, as well as Series 1 and Series 2 models. Here are the details.

Apple’s beta software, intended for download and installation by developers, often comes in droves, and this time is no different. After seeding initial beta seeds of tvOS 10.2, iOS 10.3, and macOS 10.12.4 last week, the Cupertino-based company has now officially issued the initial beta of watchOS 3.2, specifically for users registered on the Apple Developer Program.

watchos-3.2-beta-1

As is generally the case, any new release of a major platform by Apple results in an exciting exploration of what’s actually been included, what is user-facing and what is actually abstracted away in terms of behind-the-scenes improvements and performance enhancements. Thankfully, watchOS 3.2 is slightly more than a very simple and mild point update, and has some inclusions that will definitely give developers a reason to put aside some time to investigate and explore.

One of the major inclusions with this beta of watchOS 3.2 is the introduction of the rather splendid and theatrical sounding Theater Mode.

Theater Mode actually might sound familiar, and that’s because it was rumored to make an appearance with the release of iOS 10.3, but didn’t materialize in the first beta, released recently. However, Apple has seen fit to implement this functionality into watchOS 3.2, meaning that Apple Watch owners can instantly tell the Watch that they are in a theater and have the hardware act accordingly to that situation.

apple-watch-series-2

On a very basal level, Theater Mode is designed to ensure that the Watch is sympathetic to surroundings when a wearer is in the theater. It achieves this by ensuring that sound is muted on the Watch, and that the screen doesn’t come to life when the wrist is raised. Notifications are still received, with haptics still in play, but they can view these by simply tapping on the display or pressing the Digital Crown.

watchOS 3.2 also brings with it SiriKit integration, which means developers can start building Siri into the app experiences, allowing things like a cab ride to be booked, food to be ordered, or payments to be made via the likes of PayPal, all directly through Siri on Apple Watch.

Apple has also taken the opportunity to bundle in bug fixes, performance enhancements, miscellaneous improvements and changes, such as extension of existing APIs over to watchOS, in order to push watchOS forward.

watchOS 3.2 beta 1 can be downloaded and installed to the Apple Watch by using the accompanying Watch app on iPhone and heading to the Software Update mechanism (General > Software Update). Of course, this requires you to be an enrolled and registered member of the Apple Developer Program as mentioned earlier with a configuration profile installed on iPhone for watchOS.

Three UK Adds Native Wi-Fi Calling Support On iPhone

U.K. carrier Three has pushed out a new carrier update which enables Wi-Fi Calling for users on its network. The updated carrier settings have the version number 27.1, and should be winging their way to iPhones with Three SIMs in them right now.

Whilst Wi-Fi Calling on Three is nothing new, the implementation post-carrier update does alter the way the technology works. Previously, users of Three’s network had to use the free Three inTouch app in order to make calls over Wi-Fi connections. With this new carrier update that limitation has been removed, with Wi-Fi Calling now supported on the Three network at an iOS system level.

three-wifi-calling-iphone

We know that sometimes you can’t get signal when you’re indoors, but that shouldn’t mean that you have to go off the grid. With Three inTouch Wi-Fi Calling, you can call and text whenever you’re on Wi-Fi in the UK, even if there’s no mobile signal.

Users of Three can enable Wi-Fi Calling by heading over to the Settings.app, followed by Phone > Wi-Fi Calling but an update to carrier settings version 27.1 is required, and should be easily achievable by syncing your iPhone to iTunes. For a step-by-step guide on enabling Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone, check out our post: How To Enable WiFi Calling On iPhone.

Both Vodafone and EE already support Wi-Fi Calling on iPhones in this manner, with Three now also joining the pair of cellular big hitters. Wi-Fi Calling is fast becoming a must-have for carriers, with those in the U.K. keen to ensure feature parity in an increasingly competitive market.

three-wifi-call

Use of Wi-Fi Calling is popular in areas where cellular reception is less than ideal, particularly in older buildings where the walls are particularly thick, interfering with cellular signals. Being able to use a Wi-Fi network instead of relying on a carrier’s cellular network can be the difference between being able to make a call and not, making it an important value addition for those carriers which support it.

tvOS 10.1 Jailbreak For Apple TV 4 Might Become A Reality

If you own a fourth-generation Apple TV, and happen to be the type of individual who gets excited by arbitrary snippets of code published on GitHub, as well as semi-cryptic statements that allude to something happening, then you might want to think about downgrading that Apple TV 4 of yours to tvOS 10.1 while you still can.

Yes, that does mean that there’s a very real possibility that a jailbreak for Apple TV 4 running tvOS 10.1 may soon become a reality.

apple-tv-jailbreak

But before we all go about getting excited and plugging in our Apple TVs in an attempt to downgrade to tvOS 10.1, let’s take a quick look at the “evidence” which is suggesting we may be soon welcoming Apple TV 4 jailbreak into our lives.

If you examine the recently released yalu102 iOS 10.2 jailbreak by Luca Todesco and Mario Grassi, you will find Apple TV related code in its source code. It appears that a conditional statement within the yalu102 source code is set to execute upon “AppleTV5,3” returning true. There’s also a comment in that code which states “Using Ian’s condition, not having my AppleTV nearby”, which further adds fuel to the fire of there possibly being some Apple TV goodness happening within yalu102, or at least the potential thereof.

else if (strstr(u.machine, “AppleTV5,3”) && strstr(u.version, “root:xnu-3789.22.3~1/RELEASE_ARM64_S5L8960X”)) { //Using Ian’s condition, not having my AppleTV nearby tvOS 10.0.1 (14U71) @oncheh

Additionally, popular researcher and Apple TV hacker Kevin Bradley, who’s responsible for nitoTV tool, has also gotten in on the action via a blog post. It’s rare that anything happens relating to the Apple TV without Bradley being involved, and this time is no different, with him publishing a post on Tumblr on the possibility of yalu102 exploits working on tvOS 10.1:

it should be compatible, i know offsets have been updated but from what i understand “The core exploit still relies on mach ports which tvOS doesn’t expose to userland” Im not sure if any of this has changed in the last two days and havent had an opportunity to investigate yet.

Apple TV 4 one

Basically, the signs appear all to be in place, suggesting that it’s an extremely good idea for Apple TV owners interested in a jailbreak to downgrade immediately to tvOS 10.1 from the latest tvOS 10.1.1 while Apple is still signing the older firmware. To do this, you will need a USB-C to USB-A cable and will have to connect your Apple TV to your computer and restore it to tvOS 10.1 using iTunes.

As always, we will keep you updated as we learn more about this potential Apple TV 4 jailbreak for tvOS 10.1. Stay tuned for more.

iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Yalu102 Beta 2 Adds iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5s, And 64-bit iPad Models Support

Luca Todesco has updated iOS 10.2 jailbreak yalu102 to beta 2 with added support for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s and all 64-bit iPad models.

This beta 2 release comes only a few days after the initial release of yalu102 which supported iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE and iPad Pro models. With this latest version, yalu102 can now basically jailbreak all 64-bit devices except the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices.

yalu102 cydia

With iOS 10.2.1 out now and Apple testing iOS 10.3 with developers and testers, those interested in jailbreaking should downgrade to iOS 10.2 while Apple is still signing the firmware as Apple could be closing the signing window anytime now.

While you are at it, also take the opportunity to save the SHSH2 blobs for iOS 10.2 as this will allow you to downgrade to iOS 10.2 firmware even after Apple stops signing the said iOS firmware version. You can learn more about this here: How To Permanently Preserve Your iOS 10.2 Jailbreak.

As for Apple’s latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices, it’s important to note that yalu102 doesn’t support these two devices yet. The latest version of iOS which can be jailbroken on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is iOS 10.1.1, and you can do so using Mach_Portal+Yalu jailbreak, a guide for which can be found here.

As for jailbreaking all non-iPhone 7 64-bit iOS 10.2 devices, you can download the latest version of yalu102 from here [mirror link], and then follow our full detailed tutorial here on how to jailbreak: How To Jailbreak iOS 10.2 With Yalu102 [Tutorial].

iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Tweaks: New Or Updated Cydia Packages Worth Checking Out

The iOS 10.2 jailbreak is here and jailbreakers want to know which Cydia tweaks are new or updated and compatible with the latest jailbreak. We’re no different, and as everyone knows, finding cool jailbreak tweaks can be a difficult proposition at the best of times.

Discoverability is not something the jailbreak world excels at, so we like to share tweaks that we find in case you haven’t come across them before.

Cydia-iOS-10

Today, we’re sharing a few that are either new or updated, or have been confirmed to be working on iOS 10.2

Most of the tweaks in the list below are free, too, so if you aren’t looking to shell out cash at the Cydia store just yet, you should find much to play with here. With that preamble out of the way, let’s take a look at all these tweaks that you can install now on your jailbroken iOS device, shall we?

DarkMessages (Free, sticktron.github.com/repo)

DarkMessages

Dark themes are all the rage right now, and until Apple brings an official dark theme to iOS, we’re going to have to rely on jailbreak tweaks to do it for them. DarkMessages turns the stock Messages app into a darker version of its former self.

iCleaner Pro (Free, ib-soft.net/cydia)

iCleaner-Pro-update

If you find that you’re running low on storage space, the popular iCleaner Pro, now updated for iOS 10.2, can set about getting rid of unneeded files in order to free some up.

Noctis9 (BigBoss, $2.00)

Noctis

Remember how we said dark themes were all the rage? We weren’t kidding, and Noctis9 is an iOS dark theme that you will definitely want to check out. With dark modes for all the major parts of iOS, this is a great starting point for any full-on dark theme. Even though this tweak officially supports iOS 9 only, we have tested and can confirm it works on 10.2 just fine.

ReachBoard (BigBoss, Free)

ReachBoard

Want to see what’s on your clipboard by invoking the reachability view in iOS? ReachBoard can do exactly that, and it won’t cost you a penny. Like Noctis9 above, this tweak officially supports iOS 9 only but we have tested and can confirm it works on 10.2 as well.

IconSupport (BigBoss, Free)

Have you ever spent ages setting your Home screen app icons up just the way you want them by using a special tweak that allows for creative app placement, only for iTunes to rearrange them all? With IconSupport, that won’t happen, and that’s brilliant!

BadgeCleaner (BigBoss, Free)

badgecleaner1

Sometimes clearing the badges on apps can take far too many taps, but with BadgeCleaner, you can tap an app and then choose to either clear its badge or launch the app itself. Yes, launching the app now takes an extra tap, but that’s a price well worth paying in my book. The tweak also features a Flipswitch toggle for those who might not want to deal with that extra tap all the time.

SlideCut (BigBoss, Free)

SlideCut

With this tweak, a huge number of shortcuts will be available to you inside the system keyboard. Simply tap the spacebar and slide to one of the predefined characters and the shortcut will be activated. Cut, copy, paste and undo are just some of the shortcuts available.

So there we have it – some great tweaks to keep you occupied this weekend!

How To Reset Your Xbox One To Factory State Before Selling It Off

Here’s how to perform a complete reset of your Xbox One or Xbox One S console to factory state before selling it off.

If you are the long-term owner of an Xbox One, but have decided to upgrade to Microsoft’s ‘S’ version of the console, or even just decided to move across and try something new, like Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro, or even Nintendo’s Switch when it launches, then you might want to pass on your existing console to a loved one or sell it.

Xbox-One-rear-side.png

If you’re planning on doing just that, then you’re going to need to ensure that all data and information is removed from the console, and that it’s in the perfect condition to send out. We’re going to walk you through exactly how to do that.

Before we move ahead with that, it is important to note that this process will bring your console to its factory state, erasing all accounts, games, saved games, settings, and home Xbox associations. You will also need to connect to Xbox Live, and have your Xbox software up to date in order to complete this process.

Step 1: To begin, scroll left on the Xbox Home screen to get into the guide. This is where you can get access to additional options.

Step 2: From within that area, select Settings, and then choose the All Settings option.

Step 3: In All Settings, you’ll have access to an option titled System. Select this to continue, before choosing Console info & updates.

Step 4: Within those settings, you will find the option that you are looking for: Reset console. Select this.

Step 5: On that particular screen you will be presented with three options. To perform a full reset for resale of the console, you’re going to want to select Reset and remove everything, as shown in the image below. We’ve included the options below for reference.

  • Reset and remove everything: This pretty much does what it says on the tin. It will reset the Xbox One console to factory settings, as if it were a totally new device.

  • Reset and keep my games & apps: This option will force a reset on the OS, and is generally used when troubleshooting issues as it performs a reset but ensures that games and applications, as well as their data, are preserved.

  • Cancel: This just exits you out of the reset screen.

xbox-one-reset

Selecting Reset and remove everything will basically do exactly that, and get the console ready for resale or gifting to someone else without any fear that any of your personal information, or apps, games, or data are still stored on it.

It’s definitely not an iPhone 7. Nor is it a stunning Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, or similar, but then it isn’t priced in that premium bracket either. What it is, is a highly capable Android device with 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Full HD display and unlocked to all major networks, meaning compatibility with AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, et al. This would be the perfect device for a teenager, or as a secondary mobile for travel or vacation purposes.

Top 10 Cydia Repos / Sources For iOS 10 – 10.2 [List]

The initial Yalu jailbreak solution came as a very welcome surprise for jailbreak fans across the globe. And now that the jailbreak is a bit stable in the latest yalu102 form, and many tweaks are already updated to support the latest jailbreak, what are the best repos/sources to have in Cydia?

Here we’re going to take a look at what we feel are the ten best repositories that you should have installed as sources in Cydia on your jailbroken device running iOS 10.

top-cydia-repos-sources

Ryan Petrich’s Repo
URL: http://rpetri.ch/repo

Ryan Petrich is one name that doesn’t really need an introduction to those familiar with the jailbreak community. The developer has been working tirelessly for as long as we can remember to not only produce and maintain high quality premium jailbreak offerings such as Activator, but also pushing out experimental wares that utilize Apple’s latest technologies within iOS. There’s literally tons of excellent stuff, both in beta and final versions, hosted on Petrich’s own personal repository. It’s also the place where you can find experimental versions of Activator – a tweak that is an absolute must have on every jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device out there. Add this repo, you won’t be disappointed.

iCleaner Pro Repo
Stable URL: https://ib-soft.net/cydia
Beta URL: https://ib-soft.net/cydia/beta

Ivano Bilenchi, author of the excellent iCleaner Pro tweak for jailbroken devices, has two repositories available to jailbreakers. The first repository contains stable software releases, such as iCleaner and iCleaner Pro for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The second repository is basically a home for what Bilenchi calls his “bleeding edge software” releases. Basically, a repo for beta creations that may or may not be functionally complete and bug free.

Karen’s Pineapple Repo
URL: https://cydia.angelxwind.net/

Karen, or angelXwind as she is more commonly known in the development community, owns and maintains her own repository that hosts a seriously large array of excellent packages. There’s also a secondary repository that contains webstack packages for the more advanced iOS user, as well as other useful system utilities, but it’s unlikely that the average user will need this. Karen’s main repo contains excellent offerings such as AppSync UnifiedSafariSaver, PreferenceOrganizer 2, mikoto, and IneffectivePower.  Although it’s important to know that AppSync isn’t compatible with iOS 10 yet, but hopefully should be soon.

Forty Six & Two Repo
URL: repo.fortysixandtwo.com

This is probably one of the lesser known repository gems out there, but it’s currently growing in popularity thanks to the packages such as Hapticle that mimics functionality of Apple’s Taptic Engine haptic feedback on older devices. There’s also a number of additional installations that will offer some joy as well. Definitely worth adding as a source on Cydia on your jailbroken device.

HASHBANG Productions Repo
URL: cydia.hbang.ws

The HASHBANG Productions repository is one of the better known repos, and for good reason. There are literally tons and tons of excellent packages listed on the source. While not all have been updated to work on iOS 10 yet, many do work already. Definitely worth checking out.

iMokhles Repo
URL: apt.imokhles.com

This one is extremely simple. This particularly repository contains tweaks such as packages that are designed to bring certain 3D Touch functionality to older hardware that aren’t supported by Apple. That’s a good enough reason to get right in there and add it as a source.

CP Digital Darkroom Repo
Stable URL: https://repo.cpdigitaldarkroom.com
Beta URL: https://beta.cpdigitaldarkroom.com

There’s a ton of really great packages offered on the source, such as Cuttlefish, CycleBluetooth, QuickShuffleRepeat, among tons of other packages.

Philip Wong’s Repo
URL: https://pw5a29.github.io/

Philip wong is a fairly well-known name in the jailbreak game these days, and rightly so. The developer is behind the extremely popular Speed Intensifier package that speeds up the native animations in iOS and makes everything appear a lot nippier and quicker.

F.lux Official Repo
URL: https://justgetflux.com/cydia/

F.lux tweak is extremely well-known for being one of the best installations around for those who want to improve their viewing experience on any iOS device. For some, it works better than Apple’s own “Night Shift” implementation available on iOS 9.3.x-10.x devices.

CoolStar Repo
URL: https://repo.coolstar.org/

The CoolStar repository is a phenomenal resource but probably one that should only really be frequented by advanced power users due to the nature of what it hosts. Adding this source will provide access to advanced command line tools and other technical packages that go above and beyond the standard offering.

Kodi 17 Krypton Release Candidate 4 Now Available

Kodi 17 Krypton release candidate 4 is now available. Here are the details on the latest release of Kodi.

Those familiar with the extremely popular Kodi – formerly XBMC – media center software will likely already be well aware that version 17 of the platform is currently in development, with the team aiming toward a full and final release. After coming out of beta and into the release candidate stage, the team has now officially released the fourth RC of Kodi 17 Krypton, and is now available to download with immediate effect.

kodi-17-RC4

Release candidate 3 of Kodi 17 was made publicly available approximately two weeks ago, with the initial RC version becoming available just before the close of 2016. With that sort of development and release pace, you instantly get a feeling that the engineering team is working insanely hard on getting Kodi 17 Krypton ready for a final release, and ready to get it into the hands of excited users with a full and final publicly ready release.

The whole point of the beta stage, and indeed this release candidate stage that we find ourselves in, is to find and eradicate any issues, as well as progress the platform whilst it is in use with an array of early adopters.

Given that this is the fourth iteration of Kodi 17’s release candidate, the development team hasn’t looked to introduce anything brand new, or any previously unseen outward-facing changes. Instead, RC4 is purely about performance improvements, stability upgrades, and bug fixes for issues that have been identified in previous RC versions, either by internal or external sources.

As an example, RC4 brings bug fixes and improvements to the new Krypton Estuary and Estouchy skins, as well as a very important fix that was preventing Kodi 17 from running on a variety of Android Nougat devices. RC4 also introduces a hot fix for the issue which was preventing favorites from refreshing, as well as squashing a bug which prevented add-ons from not being added when executed through the Add-ons Manager interface.

Of course, there are other fixes and improvements, a list of which can be seen below.

kodi-17-RC4-fixes

For those that are interested in the progression of Kodi 17 Krypton, and specifically who wish to see if RC4 is a noticeable improvement over RC3, then the downloads are available right now from the kodi.tv/download/.

iOS 10.3 Allows Apps To Change Icons Without Update, macOS 10.12.4 Reads Windows EXE Icons

Apple’s latest round of beta releases for macOS and iOS have brought about some interesting little changes that, on the face of it, might not be big, but could potentially lead to some pretty awesome things. Two of those changes surround icons, with iOS apps now able to change their icons without an update and macOS finally capable of reading the icon data from a Windows EXE file.

Kicking things off, developers will be able to have their app’s icon change seemingly at will once users have updated to iOS 10.3. Currently, the only way an app can alter its icon is to push an update out to the App Store, but with iOS 10.3 beta 1, developers will be able to change icons on the fly.

Icon-changing-iOS-10.3

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith does note that users need to give their permission for this to happen, though it’s unknown at this point whether that permission is required each time the icon is changed, or whether giving an app permission to change its icon once is enough for the lifetime of that app. We can only assume the latter, and if that is true, then the possibilities here are tremendous.

Use cases for being able to change an icon are obvious. Developers could have an icon advertise a sale, for example, but my favorite possibility, and one I can only hope is on the way, is support for an iOS dark mode, which is something iPhone and iPad users have been asking for years.

Let us hope the whole reason for this addition is to allow apps to have a night mode icon that is activated when iOS’s own dark mode is turned on. Fingers crossed for that!

Over on the Mac, those who have a need to have Windows EXE files lying around will notice that they will display their own icons once macOS 10.12.4 ships. The feature is there in the current beta, and it works just as you might expect. An Evernote EXE displays the familiar elephant logo, for example.

macOS-10.12.14

These are only the first beta releases of iOS 10.3 and macOS 10.12.4, so there is time for things to change, but both of these icon-related changes seem good to us. Please don’t take them away in subsequent betas, Apple.

iPhone 8 Concept Envisions Curved-Edge Display, Unique Camera Design [Video]

If there is one thing that we love here at RP almost as much as a new smartphone release, it’s the release of a smartphone concept video. There are some truly creative people out there and the phones that they can create in concept videos are often streets ahead of the real thing. 2017 is said to be the year of the iPhone 8, and with the iPhone’s tenth anniversary upon us, Apple is expected to bring the thunder with its new release.

That’s what designers Iskander Utebayev and Ran Avni have done with their new iPhone render, too.

iPhone-8-concept

Right out of the gate, we have to say we are more than a little dubious about the majority of this concept iPhone 8 being anything like the real iPhone 8 that will ship later this year.

There is one aspect that we think is spot on though, and that’s the use of a screen that is curved at the edges just like Samsung’s Edge design. Rumors of a Samsung OLED display with the edges being used in an iPhone have been around for a while, so that may be a good bet.

Less likely is the super-awesome camera that is shown in this video. Built right into the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone in the render, the camera almost disappears, and if we are honest, we have to admit to not realizing it was there in the first run through of the video.

We’d love for Apple to follow suit, but alas, we doubt it will happen. Also, we’re not sure how Apple would manage to fit its new dual camera system into the logo for the “Plus” variant of the phone.

iPhone-8-concept-3

Whatever the iPhone 8 ends up being, if it can come even close to the Jet Black render in this video, then it is going to be one hell of a smartphone. Check the video out below and judge for yourselves.

CarrierCrack Adds AT&T Carrier Hack Support On iOS 10 Running iPhone Models

CarrierCrack has been updated once again, this time adding AT&T carrier hack support on iPhone running iOS 10. Here are the details on this release.

One of the wonderful things about operating on a jailbroken device is watching on in awe and delight as your favorite tweaks and extensions get updated to work with the latest jailbreak, and the latest versions of firmware.

at&t-carriercrack

Last week we brought you the news that CarrierCrack for jailbroken devices had been released with support for the T-Mobile network for devices on iOS 10. The team has been hard at work and has launched an additional update to the CarrierCrack package, this time bringing full support for those who subscribe to the AT&T network.

What we have here is a fairly extensive little package that looks to introduce some additional options that carriers have otherwise forgotten to bring to users, or simply have chosen to remove as they don’t wish to support the feature, or it just introduces a an unwanted cost. Regardless of the reason, subscribers to a particular network generally pay a fair bit for their devices and calling plans, and are often locked to 18 or 24-month minimum term contracts, and therefore feel like they are being done a disservice by the network. CarrierCrack changes all that.

From a feature perspective, support for the AT&T network now means that the package has been updated with a full set of worked AT&T carrier files. Users should find that they have a new cellular data menu on their device which offers selection between 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE as there chosen data connection.

Installation of the tweak also auto activates Voice-over LTE (VoLTE) when LTE is activated on a device which supports that particular feature. Additional settings include an unlocked APN settings menu, free tethering/hotspot, enhanced signal capabilities, and even enhanced 3G+ speeds for GSM users.

At&t

Of course, there is more to the package than just what is listed above, so it’s definitely worthwhile grabbing the package for the $2.99 asking price for those who wish to truly unlock the power within from a network perspective. It’s also yet another great example of developers acting quickly to support devices jailbroken with yalu102, with this particular update supporting iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and even Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Speaking of yalu102, since it’s an semi-untethered jailbreak, CarrierCrack will need to be reinstalled after every reboot.

We’re sure the carriers won’t be happy about this, but consumers aren’t happy about being shortchanged either.

You can get CarrierCrack from itweakios.com/carriercrack.

iOS 10.3 Beta 1 Vs iOS 10.2.1 Speed Comparison Shows Performance Improvements Thanks To APFS

iOS 10.3 beta 1 Vs iOS 10.2.1 side-by-side speed test comparison videos show APFS has indeed brought performance improvements to various iPhone models running the latest firmware. Here are the details.

A couple of days ago, Apple released the first beta of iOS 10.3 to developers, and yesterday it made its way to the public beta program as well. That means that developers and enthusiasts the world over are now starting to get to grips with what Apple’s latest beta has to offer.

ios-10.2.1-vs-iOS-10.3-beta-1

As far as betas go, it has quite a bit to offer on paper, but how does that translate into performance on iPhones? We’re glad you asked, because iAppleBytes has done what it does best. It has taken a set of iPhone 6s, 6, 5s, and 5 and installed the iOS 10.3 beta 1 on each of the devices. These have been put against another set of similar devices running iOS 10.2.1 final.

Doing so, the YouTuber has been able to draw some conclusions over whether the new software is any faster, or indeed any slower than the software it replaces. This batch of tests is particularly interesting because the first beta of iOS 10.3 is the first iOS outing of Apple’s new file system, APFS. Would APFS make for a speed bump, perhaps?

As it turns out, it does. And quite a dramatic one at that.

All iPhones running iOS 10.3 beta 1 start up considerably faster than when they were running iOS 10.2.1. To put that into numbers, you can expect faster start up times by around 3 seconds faster on the 6s running iOS 10.3 beta 1 and up to around 7 seconds on the iPhone 5. In between, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s display similar improvements.

Geekbench also scores better on iOS 10.3 beta 1, both in single-core and multi-core scores. There is an odd one out however, with the iPhone 5 bucking the trend, perhaps because it’s a 32-bit device? It’s early days for iOS 10.3, but the initial indications are good for those who own older iPhones and are also fans of outright speed. If APFS is indeed faster than the existing solution, then that bodes well moving forward.

Don’t believe us? Check out the videos embedded below.

Update To iOS 10-Optimized Cydia After iOS 10.2 Jailbreak, Here’s How

Here’s how you can update to 64-bit iOS 10-optimized Cydia 1.1.28 after iOS 10.2 jailbreak with yalu102 on your jailbroken iPhone or iPad.

Have you been involved in the jailbreak scene and community long enough to remember when you could run through the jailbreak process, get your device liberated from Apple’s walled-garden, and then just go on your merry way using it without a care in the world?

Cydia-iOS-10

Those were indeed the good times, but times that appear to be long behind us as Apple continues to tighten security, continues to make it harder to achieve root on its devices, and generally has made things difficult for those involved in the jailbreak community. Things may not be as straightforward as they once were as far as jailbreaking goes, but you can still help yourself by taking the opportunity to improve your jailbreak experience by upgrading to the 64-bit iOS 10-optimized version of Cydia.

The situation stands a little like this; the latest version of Yalu, “yalu102”, which is intended to jailbreak select non-iPhone 7 64-bit devices running iOS 10.2, comes built-in with the older 32-bit version 1.1.27 of Cydia.

That may seem like an error, but it’s actually perfectly valid considering Jay Freeman Saurik released the newer 64-bit and iOS 10-optimzed version of Cydia at the back-end of last year and it still currently sits in a beta state. That version of Cydia is actually version 1.1.28, which you may remember us talking about late last year when it was released.

One of the great things is that yalu102 may have installed the older version of Cydia onto the device by default, but that doesn’t mean that you as a user are stuck with that. In fact, considering this is iOS 10.2, and considering the jailbreak only works with 64-bit devices, it makes perfect sense to actually upgrade the installed version of Cydia to the 64-bit beta 1.1.28 version to improve the overall experience of Cydia.

Cydia 1.1.28 copy

And of course, we wouldn’t leave you in limbo, you can follow our previous guide on how to upgrade to this 64-bit version of Cydia here: Cydia 1.1.28 Beta For iOS 10 Jailbreak Released, Here’s What You Need To Know.

The current jailbreak process may be buggy, semi-untethered, and less than an adequate solution if you consider the easier days of yesteryear, but we can enhance that experience by ensuring that we are utilizing every tool, tip and trick at our disposal.
